Closeness to the sea is one of the reasons I like Malmö, and Ribersborgs strand, or Ribban among locals, is one of my favourite locations in the city. The beach is my “getaway spot”, where I come to gaze to the horizon and listen to the waves. When the weather is clear, you can see the skyline of Copenhagen and the impressive silhouette of Öresund Bridge.
Besides the amazing views, the beach is also special due to its historical buildings, such as Ribersborgs kallbadhus, a bathhouse built back in 1898 and which is still in use. There are also other spots for having a dip in the sea, like at the end of the dock portrayed in the picture.
The scenery and buildings in Ribersborgsstranden reminds me of the visual imagery of Wes Anderson’s films, so if he shot a film in Malmö, Ribban would be a good location candidate. The visual effect typical for his films is being strengthened when the sun starts setting and the sky turns little bit pink and hazy.
