Ecoducto was built in the middle of the Viaducto Miguel Aleman, a two-way street and one of the most chaotic avenues of Mexico City. In 2018 this previously disused space was reconfigured and now is a linear urban park where anyone can take a break.
It’s a recent and ambitious project created by the city government to reactivate the public space and to recycle the sewage water that runs along the drainage.
The route is 1.6 kilometer long. It starts at the Escandon colony and ends near the south part of La Roma. So there’s a wonderful, unknown urban view of this central part of the city. There you can also find 4,800 square meters of vegetation and 50 thousand different plant species.
At Ecoducto, the pedestrian has a privileged position in relation to the cars. I usually sit down there on a bench just to read a book or listen to music while all the cars are stuck in traffic. Ecoducto is available at any time and is guarded by the police 24 hours a day. It’s good way to enjoy the city from a different perspective.
