Pan D’Monium was one of my first approaches to vegan food and I am pretty sure it is a sort of rite of passage for vegans in Mexico City. Their first and best-known location resides in the heart of la Roma. It is a small food stand. However, it is very colorful and welcoming, with many pro-vegan stickers pasted on the walls. Their bigger location is also in la Roma but in the south part of the neighborhood (closer to Condesa). They have more food options in the bigger restaurant but if you are closer to the food stand, do not hesitate to visit them there. They specialize in street food and their pizza and burgers are one of the best in the city.
My personal favorite is Encarnación (a type of Choripan which is a sandwich with “chorizo” popular in Argentina). However, you can’t go wrong in Pan D’Monium. I have tried everything on their menu and I can assure you that you will enjoy whatever you order.
90% of their staff are women and they are always very nice and will guide you if you are not sure what to order.
Protip: If you visit Pan D'Monium during the fall, please try their pan de muerto, a type of pan dulce traditionally baked in Mexico during the weeks leading up to the Día de Muertos. Their pan de muerto is seriously my favorite, I honestly long for it all year.
