Kašary is an old name coming from the Polish word ‘’barracks’’. The barracks of the Minsk garrison were actually located here from the end of the 18th century. The canal loop surrounds the district hidden in between Uljanaŭskaja-Lienina-Pulikhava streets and strolling around the canal is the easiest way to explore it.
There are many ways to enter the district: hopping off tram 4/7 at Pieršamajskaja str., walking down from Kastryčnickaja str., crossing it while heading back to the city centre after having checked Zilber’s ‘’Science’’ … Like in Cortazar’s ''Rayuela'', there is no other order than your own.
Regardless of the starting point, here is a funny challenge en route. Pick a question you need an answer to, and let the canal help you look through obstacles and show you a solution you were not even thinking about. It can be a phrase you accidentally hear from a passerby, an unexpected encounter, or an interesting acquaintance... Reality has endless ways of speaking to us.
