Montreal is known for its bagels, did you know? The best producers are located in the Mile End, managed by the Jewish community.
My favorite moment: enter Fairmount Bagel in the middle of the night to smell the baking in the wood ovens. We can watch the bakers who never stop shaping pasta by hand. The amount of bagels produced is impressive!
I prefer by far this place for the variety found there: the originals of course (plain, sesame seed and poppy seed), Caraway seed, Onion, Garlic, Mueslix, Flax Seed, Multi grain and Whole Wheat. And the specials, so good: Blueberry, Chocolate chip, Cinnamon and raisin, Sun-dried tomato, Pesto and black olive… and so on! Organic whole wheat flour or unbleached flour version. In short, more than 20 different varieties of bagel available, all rolled by hand.
You will find several toppings to enhance your taste: various cream cheese flavours (plain, chives, onion, herbs), jam, smoked salmon, even peanut butter and slices of banana!
The bakery is open 24 hours. Joy! Be aware that the place is very popular and it is not uncommon to have to queue when visiting on the weekend.
