Dinette Triple Crown is across the street from the Parc de Petite Italie (Little Italy Park). This is an important detail because the Triple Crown to the park is a little bit like one of those birds that live on the back of a rhinoceros. They need each other!
The Dinette serves “southern food” (deep fried chicken, brisket, biscuits, macaroni and cheese), and if you ask, they’ll give it to you in a picnic basket with a little red and white checkered cloth. Since 2012, Montrealers have flocked to the Dinette and then traipse across the street to set up at a picnic table. It’s a delightful tradition for the summer months.
The food is delicious. I went recently with my daughter and we grabbed a meal of rich, juicy, deep-fried chicken and tasty biscuits, served with a side of coleslaw and jars of ice-cold lemonade.
All the picnic tables were already taken by other Dinette eaters, so we spread our tablecloth out on a bench, which worked out just fine. There is a bandstand in the park, and if you’re lucky musicians will be out playing a show.
