Ask any of my friends or my better half and they will tell you about my obsession with fishing. I have to confess that as soon as I have the opportunity, I take it. When I see water, I always wonder what lies below. There is actually great fishing around the island, depending on what you want to catch. If you don't have your gear with you, for around $ 25 well spent at a local hardware store (like Canadian Tire) you can go fishing and who knows, catch something! Some of the local species are bass, perch, pike, walleye and even sturgeon.
One spot that is worth mentioning is at the end of Park Cité du Havre. It's a stretch of land located between downtown and St-Helena island. Many fishermen like myself spend hours under the sun waiting for a bite or two! The only thing to remember is to get a permit ($ 30 at Canadian Tire, $ 20 for seniors over 65).
When fall makes its way back, it's time to get ready for ice fishing! There is also a sweet spot right across the river for those who don't mind the cold wind of the north. Fish on!
