Gärtnerplatz itself is a beautiful square (actually its a circle shape) found in a very busy, cultural area of Munich. It's in the middle of a large roundabout and it's actually a very popular and well-known place for people to meet up, sit on the grass and hang out. Also in the area are many stores and boutiques, and it is a hop, skip and jump from the Viktualienmarkt and the Marienplatz.
Right on this square is the Gärtnerplatz Theater. It was built in 1864 and it is a beautiful building, both inside and out. But it is not only the style of the theater that encaptures people, it has a wide and varied program. Here you will find ballet, opera, theater performances for children, concerts and operettas. Performances vary from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang to Priscilla Queen of the Desert to Pumuckl! (Have you heard of Pumuckl? He is a popular Munich children's character from the 1960s whose legend lives on. He has bright red hair.)
If you are looking for an evening up close and personal with culture, I recommend coming by Gärtnerplatz Theater. Perhaps, like me, you will be utterly impressed and blown away by the beauty of its performers and performances.
