Philadelphia is definitely a city of neighborhoods with their own unique personalities. Manayunk is known as the hilly neighborhood with a spunky main street full of trendy restaurants, shops and bars. And above it all is the newly-opened Manayunk Bridge Trail that offers awesome views over downtown Manayunk and the Schuylkill River.
I recommend combining a walk on the Manayunk Canal and Towpath with the Bridge Trail for one short but rewarding urban trek.
Start in downtown Manayunk at Main and Lock Streets where you'll find the entrance to the Canal path. Amble along the flat and scenic trail for about 10 minutes until you reach Green Lane, then make a right and walk up the hill to Baker Street. This will end at Dupont Street where you will make a left and quickly find the entrance to the Bridge Trail.
Walk across the Schuykill River and gridlocked Route 76 to Bala Cynwyd before returning back the way you came. Then enjoy some shopping, eating and drinking on Main Street!
The Bridge Trail is open from about 8:30 am to 6 pm from November to March, and until 9 pm from April to October.Â
