Want to see an aircraft carrier? Want to see lots of naval ships and a cool warehouse district? Want to walk or bike along the Delaware River in a nicely renovated area?
Well, do I have the place for you! Welcome to the Navy Yard. A great spot to bike around in and be a little adventurous. Discover little nooks and crannies of the Yard that you can just hang out in. It is still a functioning area, with companies like GSK and Urban outfitters, so some areas are off limits.
There is still a lot of space down there that needs to be explored and some spots that are great for picnics. You may have read Cara Jo's spot on the Food trucks down in the Navy yard - yet another reason to head on down there and beat the rush. If you follow Broad street south, keep going till you think you have hit the end and then keep going further to reach the guard and gate to the Naval yard. Don't worry as long as you look harmless they'll let you in ;).
P.S. Officially the Navy Yard is open 06:00 - 20:00 Mon - Fri but I have been down there on weekends and after hours.
