Have you ever wondered where Monopoly got the names for its ever so popular game? Well, why not visit one of the places yourself since one just so happens to be Reading Railroad. Reading Railroad became Reading Terminal Market which is a large indoor market that is a great place to sample food from all over the region all in one place. You can pick up everything there from produce, fresh fish, prepared food, or even an Amish favorite.
Reading Terminal Market is one of my favorite places to go to grab lunch, sit among a crowd of people to watch people do their shopping. Some of my places in the market are The Original Turkey, where you can get a whole thanksgiving dinner on a sandwich complete with cranberry sauce. Bassets Ice Cream is where you will find the oldest ice cream in America.
I cannot go into Reading Terminal Market without going to Beiler's Donuts. They are the best you will ever eat. They are made fresh, so you can watch them fill that jelly donut you just ordered. Beiler's is an Amish bakery and they are not the only Amish family in the market. There is a whole section dedicated to the Pennsylvania Dutch.
If a donut is not enough to satisfy your sweet tooth then you must try a cookie from Amy's Cookies. They charge by the pound, but get there an hour before close when they all go on sale for one dollar each.
