Welcome to Prishtina: football edition!
One of the main questions to ask a Kosovan kid used to be: Do you support FC Barcelona or Real Madrid? Once you answered, you became a part of one group of people and an enemy of the other, both on game days and on the daily football matches within the neighborhood. It was such an identity-defining question which essentially led to us being absolutely obsessed with football!
While watching Barça or Real Madrid matches live is a bit more difficult, we have the next best thing and that is watching FC Prishtina or the national football team of Kosovo in the Fadil Vokrri Stadium, named after one of the greatest Kosovan football players often compared to Diego Maradona for his approach. The stadium is recognized by UEFA and it can host about 13.000 spectators. The atmosphere during these games is absolutely enthralling and the adrenaline rush is inevitable, especially when Plisat (the FC Prishtina fanclub) or Dardanët (the national team’s supporters) launch into their very famous songs and cause goosebumps. Listen here as well.
If you find you want to watch a match and be a part of the atmosphere fully, then I suggest booking a seat in the Northern Aisle where the fan club has its permanent seats, but if you want the best views then the Western Aisle is the place to be. You can check out the game schedules on the official website of Kosovo’s Football Federation anytime!
Forca Prishtinë! Forca Kosovë!
