I really love the parks in Riga. Mostly I spend time on the right bank of Daugava, but when I am in Pārdaugava, Arkādija park is my favorite.
It is not so big and not as crowded as the other parks in Riga. A very relaxing place with small bridges, small waterfalls and birds. It is very cozy and I can spend hours watching ducks in the pond.
It is a great place to sit on a bench with a book, run along the small paths of the park (you will definitely meet others, runners love this place) or just to feed some ducks (bring some bread with you).
And it is so beautiful for night walks too, as you can probably tell by the picture.
If you visit this park don't miss the train station "Torņkalns" nearby. There you can see a memorial board and cattle train wagon. The same kind of wagon in which thousands of Latvians were deported from this station to concentration camps.
Maybe you don't want to spoil a good relaxing time with bad thoughts. But when I come here, I always remember how lucky we are that we now live in a free Latvia. And that all of my problems are not actually a problem at all.
