Riga is located on the banks of the river Daugava, the largest river in Latvia. There are few islands in the river that are big enough to be used for various purposes and that are easy to reach from both sides of Riga, not only by private cars but also by public transport or bikes.
One of these islands, Lucavsala, has become a very popular place for various outdoor activities in recent years. One part of this island has become a very good place to have some rest. There is a green area with places for picnic, Lucavsalas atpūtas parks, there are various types of playgrounds for kids, beach volley pitches and also a sandy beach for swimming in the river Daugava. So, basically, it's a perfect place to have an outdoor rest in the middle of the city. There is a café, public lavatories, a dog walking path, trash bins, an outdoor library in the summertime, lifeguards at the beach and water quality monitoring in the swimming area, as well as a marked area in the water for safety.
As a true citizen, I really like Lucavsalas atpūtas parks - the place is easily and quickly reachable, clean, and not very crowded – there are spaces and options for everybody who wants to have a rest. Not every European city can offer such a well-maintained place to experience and enjoy the nice summer weather and have a good rest.
