Gianicolo Rome – An explosive sunset

relaxing
Relaxing
""Gianicolo" is a hill in Rome where you get the most amazing sunset views. Come here to chill with a friend - and see the canon fire every day at noon!"

No other sunset is as beautiful as the ones you can see on the terrace of Gianicolo. From this panorama view where you can observe a big part of the city, you can stare astonished at the beauty of the city, changing its dress for the special event. Indeed, all the palaces, monuments, and churches take on another color that makes them so amazing to look at.

This terrace is on top of one of Rome's many hills called Gianicolo, a hill dedicated to the Roman god Janus. No temple remains from this god, but the divine view is still there.

Still, Gianicolo is not only a place from which you can observe the city, but it's also a wonderful spot where you can chill and relax while drinking something with a friend and sitting on the wall that opens to the city. A great place to chill indeed and recharge your batteries.

Talking about the wall, if you look down the wall, you'll see at some point a little platform with two lines. If you want to see why the platform is there, you need to come on any given day, no matter when - what's important is the time: 12 PM. In fact, every day at this time, a real cannon from World War II will be pushed out from the garage inside the hill by two soldiers and exactly at noon, will be fired. That's an old tradition that dates back to 1847 and is still ongoing.

"Kalapà" in Rome is my go-to restaurant for several reasons: I don't want to cook at home, I'm on a low budget and their not-Greek-actually yummy Kumpir!
