The inside reveals a welcoming, industrial space with tables for those wanting to work or study as well as cosy corners with comfy couches and chairs to flop into with friends or a book. The atmosphere is relaxed, and the smell of coffee tickles your senses. However, do not be fooled, this is not just another coffee place.
The name, Heilige Boontjes, loosely translated as “saint”, is not random, but references the social aspect of this coffee mecca. At Heilige Boontjes, youngsters who have found themselves on the wrong side of the law are given a chance to get back on track by learning a skill and reintegrating into society to enhance their job opportunities. This results in some of the best service around as the staff is motivated to make sure your experience is nothing short of perfect.
The coffee at Heilige Boontjes is roasted on the premises and there is a variety of roasts to choose from. The staff can help you select your perfect roast. There are lunch options which look amazing, but I have never been able to ignore the tangy lemon loaf or the banana loaf goodness in the baked goods section. Heilige Boontjes brings a smile to your face with all its (coffee) deliciousness and your karma will be up a notch for helping to make a difference. Win-win.
