Rotterdam's city hall, Stadhuis, has a beautiful hidden garden with a nice fountain in the middle and plants all over the walls. You can enter just from the sides of the building and sit on the benches that are within the courtyard.
It’s open to the public during the day, and I often go there to take a break from the noise or just sit for a moment of calm. It’s especially beautiful in spring, when flowers bloom and the sunlight comes through the arches. You’ll find locals reading, having a quiet lunch, or just passing through, as it's rarely crowded.
The courtyard is also a great place to reflect on the city’s history. The Stadhuis survived the 1940 bombing that destroyed much of central Rotterdam, making this space one of the few links to the city’s architectural past.
If you're wandering through the city center, take a few minutes to step inside. It’s one of those spots that makes you pause and appreciate the quieter corners of Rotterdam.
