Koekela has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. My grandparents lived just around the corner from the Nieuwe Binnenweg, only minutes away from Koekela. There was always a jar on their table filled with Koekela’s famous oatmeal cookies. My grandma used to say they were even better after a few days.
As I grew older, my visits to Koekela expanded beyond cookies to include their irresistible lemon meringue pie. Even after my grandfather moved out of Rotterdam, he has yet to find a pie that matches its perfection.
Now that I’ve settled in Rotterdam, Koekela is my go-to spot when I want to treat family or friends to something special. Since 2003, Koekela has been a staple on the vibrant Nieuwe Binnenweg, offering an array of pies, including a monthly special, and a delightful selection of cookies. My personal favorites include the caramel shortbread, pecan bar, and lemon bar.
Sometimes, there’s a small line outside, but it moves quickly and is definitely worth the wait. Whether you're after a nostalgic treat or something new, Koekela never disappoints.
