We just can’t have enough of these specialised shops where people are passionate about what they sell.
Little Italy is such a place – a pleasure to shop for delicious, affordable and authentic Italian delicatessen or for a quick bite, to get a pizza slice or a sandwich. It’s all about Italian food and if it’s not too busy the staff is very helpful in giving tips. If you love cooking Italian, doing your shopping at Little Italy is Valhalla. I like to joke that in Little Italy size does matter when looking for the right size of spaghetti.
Officially located at the Lombardkade 51A (though they use the back entrance at the Binnenrotte) you’ll find a typical small Italian supermarket/caterer. They have the largest weekly outdoor market on their doorstep on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
It’s a good place to snoop around and anything you can think of you will find here for your Italian cooking. Cheeses, cold cuts, a wide range of red, white, sweet, bubbling wines, pastas, different kinds of olives (those young green ones are delicious!), (extra virgin) olive oils, truffles, herbs, mouthwatering antipasti like the dried tomatoes, sea fruits, grilled eggplant and tapenades. Or get a pizza to go.
No time to cook? Get their fresh lasagna and heat it up at home. Do try their tiramisu (ask if it’s not frozen!), available in small and large portions!
You can pay cash and with your bank/credit card.
