The history of Arizmendi Bakery is as unique and fascinating as the delicious food. The Mission location of Arizmendi was established, with the support of the bakeries of the Arizmendi Association, in 2010 and has become a true embodiment of a worker owned cooperative. The cooperative is named after Jose Maria Arizmendiarrieta, a young priest who inspired and helped found the Mondragon Cooperatives in the Basque Country of Spain in the 1950s.
Arizmendi offers daily bread, muffin, scone, and pastry selections as well as a standard "always offered" menu. My favorite is Monday's Wheat Free Focaccia bread. The menu can change without much notice so go in with a open mind- you will walk away happy. Or if you are looking for a specific item, you can always check the website.
Where was I...oh, and pizza! They're daily pizza offering are announced on the website or the sidewalk board out front. The pizza ingredients range from traditional goat cheese basil, to more unique squash, it just depends on who picks the pizza toppings that day. But every pizza has fresh vegetables, cheeses, and served on sourdough pizza crust. This is San Francisco. We put almost everything on sourdough.
Arizmendi is closed on Tuesday but the Inner Sunset location is open!
