Everything delightful and quirky about San Francisco is on display in a tiny pocket garden build on either side of a short half-block stairway above the Castro district. The Corbin Step is an art project composed of fantasy creatures build out of old tools and found objects. They exist in their own garden worlds, enhanced by colored glass and lights. Here you'll find flying frogs, who can go home to miniature modernist homes. There are always new creatures emerging and the joyful imagination always lifts my mood when I am nearby. This kind of personal art project is what makes SF my favorite city, because it values personal expression and identity and elevates this feeling with great design and artistic joy.
The steps are a single very short flight between 17th ave and Corbett street about a 10-minute, very steep walk from the Castro Metro station. Take a few minutes to head up and enter another world.
