Little Baobab San Francisco

Senegalese food and music

Marcus from San Francisco

About me I'm an SF native and have lived here since forever. I enjoy exploring, both within the city limits and around the area, specifically for places off the beaten path. I grew up near the Haight-Ashbury district and accordingly have developed a passion for the city's colorful music scene. I picked up playing guitar at age 6 and have continued to this day. I am currently in a band with ...
"Whatever your favorite restaurant in San Francisco might be, it's about to become your second-favorite after Senegalese restaurant "Little Baobab"..."

Whatever your favorite restaurant is, it's about to become your second-favorite. To anyone asking for restaurant recommendations, this is what I suggest. Little Baobab claims to be a "village" and it really is -- a one-building village. Foremost, the food is amazing. It's a unique combination of flavors that really don't compare to other cuisines. My personal go-to is the Dibi with fufu (glutinous potato-starch), fried plantains with yogurt. The house cocktails are excellent and have flavors such as tamarind and jamaica.

Beyond the food though, they feature nightly live music usually featuring Senegalese instruments, and on the weekends it turns into a dance floor with a DJ at night. The atmosphere is lively and friendly, there are always regulars just enjoying the evening. Whether you're looking for a quick place to grab lunch or somewhere to spend your evening, this is the spot. Go and you'll instantly be cooler than all your friends.

I am currently in a band with some friends and we sometimes play at various small music venues around the city. Through music, both by attending concerts and performing, I've discovered a whole other layer to the city, one that is...
