I love a good roller disco skate performance. When I am in Golden Gate Park, I almost always stop for a few minutes at the 6th avenue skate park to rest on a grassy hill and watch the skaters dance to the music. A daily tradition, the skaters, are usually at their best on the weekends. The portable sound system is loud, clear and booming everything from disco to the latest TikTok dance tracks. But the joy is the spirit of performance by the roller skaters. Many dress in fanciful costumes full of fur and feathers. Ages range from small kids just learning to seniors who love the sounds of every era. If you hang around long enough, you can catch a full performance of Michael Jackson's Thriller, or other video classics, all on skates. It is the kind of common public experience that has always made San Francisco feel welcome to everyone.
If you are a skater, you should definitely join in the fun, but even if you are here just to watch the performance, the hill is usually filled on the weekends with people out to watch the show, and you'll be very welcomed.
