The ultimate local experience - the marketplace. Right next to the Old Bazaar, there's Bitpazar, the place where you can buy everything, probably. Sometimes I find it funny how it can become the answer to every question that begins with "Where can I find..." I go there for batteries, fabrics and there are so many people buying make-up there, that there are constantly new and fresh arrivals. I had to try them and the final judgment - it's safe.
Locals know that there is a whole world there, from jewelry and clothes, to kitchenware, souvenirs, DIY stuff, shoes, fruit, vegetables, plants, a shower head... You lost your sunglasses while sightseeing? Let a salesman tell you which ones suit you best, and pay € 3 for them. Need an iPhone case? A wig? A screwdriver? A baklava pan, because you promised yourself you'll try to make it yourself? You've got it.
Not everything is the best quality, but don't be surprised either if you end up buying something you'll be using for the rest of your life. Make the best of it and enjoy the colorful shops and people, all of them are super kind and helpful, and also make sure you've planned for extra baggage, I know I would need it after seeing those prices.
