A fun thing to do in Stockholm is to jump on the commuter train and travel south to Nynäshamn. It is very easy to do as before you embark on the train you only blip your credit card, and your ticket is paid for. The trip takes just under one hour. You’ll embark from T-centralen, the commuter train main station and take the train to Nynäshamn, and there you must go to Nynäs Rökeri for some freshly smoked seafood. But before we are in Nynäshamn you’ll experience the train ride south through the suburbs and the countryside.

It takes about 30 minutes for the train to “leave” the suburbs. You’ll pass by stud farms, stables and farmers. Look out for the typical Swedish countryside houses, all of them painted red with white trims. Those houses are to be found everywhere. At Nynäshamn, the walk is just 2 minutes to get to the Nynäs Rökeri. Fresh fish and seafood, smoked and served with classic condiments. I love the smoked shrimp with dipping sauce, and you need to try the sample platter, some salmon, shrimp, crab and dipping sauces. If you want to eat what I like the most, get the Shrimp Sandwich. Remember, this is the smaller shrimp from the North Sea served on a sandwich with eggs, mayo, dill and plenty of fresh shrimp. If I can’t find it, I go for the cured salmon with creamy dilled potatoes. When done eating, take the train back to the city.
