Vaxholm is a picturesque little town close to Stockholm. It is the perfect getaway for a day or a few hours. Vaxholm is called the “capital of the archipelago” and consists of over 70 islands altogether. Take the ferry and discover not only the small island but also experience the archipelago of Stockholm. The trip takes just under one hour; onboard, you can buy refreshments and wine and beer. If you go in the summer months, be early at the berth, as the boat has an outdoor seating area that will fill up fast. During fall and winter, it is quite cozy being indoors looking out.

This is the perfect way to see something more of Stockholm and experience the city from a boat. You’ll be like a local as this boat is the main commute for many working in Stockholm. The ferry will make a lot of stops on the way out to Vaxholm, and you will see the new housing areas together with big mansions and luxury flats. Views will be spectacular. Tickets are bought at the ferry, and you can get a return ticket at the same time.

Vaxholm is a small and cozy place, it is perfect to have a wander about and make plenty of stops to eat and drink. Stroll along the water and enjoy the day. Visit the Fortress (take a boat) built 1546-1863, an interesting place too. When done, the ferry will bring you back to Stockholm.
