Tashkent has a small but not insignificant number of Indians studying or working in Tashkent or just here visiting the city. The number of Indian university students here has certainly increased, and occasional business conferences bring dozens of Indian citizens to the city. Until recently however, Indian food here has been hit and miss.
Wherever I've been living in the world, I've always been lucky enough to be close to a high-quality Indian restaurant where I can use naan bread to surgically remove the inner lining of every dish on the table. In Tashkent, that restaurant is now the Curry House Indian Restaurant.
With a concise menu that caters to meat eaters and vegans, it's not only the best Indian restaurant here but one of the most popular restaurants for foreigners in general. It's always busy but never completely packed and has a friendly environment with a light hum of conversation and satisfied guzzling.
Some of my favourites here are chicken kadhai, paneer butter masala, and mutton rogan josh. They also sell a few Chinese dishes like chow mein and chili chicken, although I've never ventured past the curry side of the menu. For me, it's a place to visit with a friend and enjoy the food with a couple of beers, but there are plenty of solo travelers there, and I wouldn't hesitate to go alone.
