Locals travel too! When travelling abroad, bringing a “piece” of Uzbekistan for friends and random nice people has become a tradition. For those of us who appreciate quality and authenticity, a perfect spot for gift shopping is located in the Cosmonaut Park area. There are several stores with national souvenirs, jewelry, clothing, dishware etc there.
Recently, I discovered a wonderful store for purchasing Uzbek handmade goods. The Silk Road is a tiny shop fully loaded with beautiful, colorful and unique items. The Silk Road brand expresses the spirit of Uzbek art.
As a woman, my attention was caught by the colorful silk scarfs, stylish Suzani jackets, leather bags with embroidered patterns, plenty of silk adras clutches and a range of handmade traditional products made of silk and cotton. However, this time I was searching for a gift for a male friend.
Opposite shelves were occupied by sets of dishware and traditional decorative ceramics, but that was not exactly what I had in mind. Luckily, designer and the owner of the store, Umid, a polite and friendly gentleman, was there that day. Umid is an amazing consultant -- he recommended getting a notepad diary covered with ikat-printed fabric and a hand-painted pen. Looked both classic and super stylish.
Shopping for gifts in Silk Road was enjoyable. I highly recommend visiting it and making yourself and your close ones happy. My friend loved his stylish gift. Feel free to ask for a discount -- I got mine.
