Pistache The Hague

The best granola in town

Jenny from The Hague

About me Although I grew up in a small village, I've always been a 'city person'. I just love the feeling that there is always something going on, just around the corner. I've lived in the city of The Hague for just over twenty years now. My perfect day? ""Pistache" in The Hague is my favorite breakfast place, and I'm no big fan of breakfast! I love to start my day with their delicious Granolalala..."

On a sunny Sunday morning, I often wake up with just one thing on my mind: let’s go to Pistache for breakfast! I’m not a big breakfast fan, but this is the exception to the rule.

Pistache opened a few years ago in a small building opposite the Palace Garden. When I first came to live in the neighborhood, a nasty-looking news agent had his shop here. I always thought it a pity. ‘Wouldn’t it be nice if this was a pretty little lunch café?’, I used to think while passing by the place. Well, I got my wish!

The interior of Pistache is painted pistachio green, hence the name. The owners and the staff are kind and helpful. And the food they serve... it seems everything here tastes a little better than anywhere else. I love to start my day with the granola: a bowl of yoghurt with granola, fresh fruit and honey. It’s called Granolalala… on the menu, probably because it makes you feel like bursting into song. For lunch, I prefer the sandwich ‘Less is More’, a wholegrain bun with avocado, pistachio nuts and a soft-boiled egg. Healthy, but in an extremely tasty way.

Although the interior of Pistache is lovely, it’s probably even better to sit outside on the small sunny terrace against the wall of the Palace Garden. If you feel like it, you can even take your food into the garden; Pistache offers well stocked picnic baskets.

I've lived in the city of The Hague for just over twenty years now. My perfect day? Leave for work on foot, meet on the way for a coffee with friends, plan a lunch date and end the day meeting my loved ones on a terrace near the canal where I live. I work in communications, and even in my spare time I love to write. My favourite subject: new places I discovered and that I can't wait to share! W...
