Since I was a kid I've always remembered ice cream as the ultimate summer desert, and from June to September we always counted how many ice creams we had in order to compete with the other kids at school. That changed somewhere in my 20s when I went for the first time in my life to Italy and I tasted an original Italian gelato! From that time on, that "softer" form of ice cream became my favourite and I've always dreamed of getting this kind of heavenly desert back in my home town!
Bombolo launched in 2017 on Mitropoleos street and has been offering high class gelato to the citizens of Thessaloniki. With more that 30 flavours, even the most demanding customer will find whatever his belly desires and it's certain that he'll want to come back and taste them all! You can have a biscuit cone ice cream with 1 scoop for 2 euros, or 2 scoops for 2.50 euros! If you are a cup lover, you can have the small one for 2.20, the medium one for 2.90 and the large one for 4.50 euros.
Apart from the ice cream, in this store you can find another delicacy that comes from Belgium: waffles! My all-time favourite is with liquid white chocolate, 1 scoop of pistachio and another scoop of coconut ice cream for only 6.50 euros!

The current edifice was built in 1727. On the same site, there had been a 12th-c. Byzantine monastery, also dedicated to the Virgin that burnt down around 1690.

Even a tiny church in Thessaloniki can be a pearl! One of the smallest (if not the smallest of all) is the “Sotirakis” chapel. “Sotirakis” means little Sotiris.

"Massalia stin Thessaloniki" quickly became the talk of the town in 2014 when it opened. Today, this restaurant systematically exceeds my expectations.

In front of the promenade of Thessaloniki, there are innumerable cafes. The presumable question that a visitor may have is: “Which one should I choose?”. I have the answer! Of course, “Castello”.
