A typical breakfast of a Thessalonian includes a delicious “bougatsa” (a sort of custard pie with “phyllo”)! The best place to have a traditional breakfast, which hotels usually don’t offer, is “Katselis”! There are two branches; one near the train station and one in the city's eastern part. Personally, I prefer the second one, because it is located near my home and, therefore, I can share my experience with it. Of course, it offers a takeaway service, but you can also sit on the upper floor and enjoy a meal with your friends (along with coffee)!
Except for the typical sweet bougatsa, there is also minced meat bougatsa - which is my favorite and my recommendation! Moreover, this branch offers a wide variety of other pies (in different shapes and with different fills), such as brioche with various sorts of cheese and turkey ham, mashed potato pies (the best vegetarian option), or crepes with ingredients of your choice. In fact, this place is ideal for any kind of meal at any time of the day!

One of my favorite Byzantine monuments in Thessaloniki is the church of the Holy Apostles. What makes it unique is the combination of gorgeous frescoes and mosaics; even though the latter, only fragments are preserved!
