In Tirana, there are hundreds of little byrektores hidden in plain sight. At first glimpse, you might not think they are anything special, but I can assure you, whatever you pick up from a byrektore is going to be worth your time.
Generally specialising in traditional byrek, and occasionally a slight deviation by way of sandwich or pastry, byrektores are a perfect place to pick up breakfast, lunch or snack on the go.
My favourite byrektore is located in my neighbourhood, just off Pazari I Ri, on Rruga Qemal Stafa, and to my knowledge, it has been there for years. It's not much to look at from the outside, but the byrek is always fresh and often still warm when you get your hands on it! My personal top flavour is the cheese and spinach.
Byrektore, just like many things in Albania, has another alter ego. By night, it doubles up as a kebab shop, so it really does have something for everyone all the time!
