I'm not sure about this, but I have the idea that most of the locals in Tirana don't know what the Friendship Monument is. I mean they know it by sight because they must have noticed that cute colorful 'thing' near the Mosque, even though they haven't paid enough attention to its existence.
Luckily I am attentive enough to let nothing escape my gaze and am also attracted to creative looking things. So when I first saw the Friendship Monument I loved the combination of white, green, black and red circles forming the roof of the installation that I previously thought was just a place to sit with friends (like a 'modern' bench). I decided to make it my new meeting point and you'll understand why in the next sentence.
We all have that one friend who is always late. Don't we? In my case it happens that this 'better late than never' friend is the one I meet almost every day. The Friendship Monument is perfect for sitting while waiting for someone. It has shade, colors, it's near the center and many places are easily accessible from there. I also like the idea of taking pictures of it.
The monument itself is built to commemorate Albania and Kuwait's friendship and cooperation, that's why the colors of the circles are the same colors that make up Kuwaiti flag. Well, may this friendship be as strong as mine and the wait as short as possible!
