Tirana is littered with Pizza restaurants, mostly all very good might I add, and Grande Roma is no exception to this. The menu is full of delicious-sounding pizzas (along with other Italian-inspired dishes that I will try another time), and all are cooked in the huge pizza oven at the back of the restaurant. It is always fun to see the kitchen, especially here, where you can watch the chefs cooking your pizza in real time!
My order is usually similar to pizza, something with ham, mushrooms and maybe something else; The Capricciosa from Grande Roma fits the bill and is up with some of the best for me as the base is just thin enough whilst also leaving some chewy crust to dip in oil. The ratio of toppings was just right – not too saucy or cheesy, but simple and delicious, and the service was very speedy – even when I visited with a group of around 20 people, all the food came out within about 20 minutes, and everyone was very satisfied with their meals.
The restaurant is a mix of homely and modern styles and makes for a very comfortable dining experience; it also has an outside veranda for those who prefer al-fresco dining. It’s relatively centrally located on the corner of Rruga Themistokli Gërmenji, making it easily accessible from most parts of the city. If you fancy a pizza during your time in Tirana, do pop in and try out one of their signatures.
