Environment Park is a science and technology hub where respecting the environment is a key element.
The hub represented the first lot to be transformed within the renovation project of the so-called Spina 3 area - the second biggest renovation project in Europe after the Défense in Paris. Huge brown-fields from former iron and steel industries were spread over both the North and South banks of the Dora River. If you are interested in this area of Turin, see also Chiara's article Riverside Dora – Urban countryside.
Environment Park covers an area of 35,000 square meters and consists of a series of buildings completely immersed in nature: there are plants running everywhere and covering many facades. The facilities host close to 60 businesses operating in the fields of technology and innovation.
Walking all the way to the end of the hub, on the other side of a very pleasant green area with grass and trees, there is the congress center. The building was realized using the existing metallic exoskeleton of a previous industrial structure together with innovative bio-construction techniques and materials.
Even though it is not intuitive and there is no sign telling you that you can go inside, all the walkways and green areas between buildings are public and usually very quiet.
Thanks to a small hydroelectric power plant located just below the buildings, Environment Park has also a relaxing background music of running water to make you feel even more relaxed.
