The Museum of Fine Arts is my most recent discovery and something you need to check out for real when visiting the city. The entrance is free, the building is very photogenic, and there are lots of paintings by the finest Valencian of them all: Joaquín Sorolla. It also seems to be the perfect place to cool down in the summer heat.
The wonderful thing about this museum is the emphasis on exhibiting the Valencia School of Art, which is quite interesting. Artists such as Miguel Alcañiz, Francisco Ribalta, Cecilio Pla, Vicent Macip, Antoni Peris and, of course, Joaquín Sorolla are on display.
The permanent collection includes sculptures, drawings, and archaeological pieces that are worth your time. Pay close attention to the Gothic panels; the details are incredibly beautiful. Mostly Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, neoclassic and naturalism paintings are on display and reflect European art, mostly religious, during the 14th-18th centuries.
The building is a 20 min walk from the city center, but it is a beautiful walk through green areas that you will love as much as I do. Right next door is the fabulous park called Viveros, which can complement your visit to the museum.
