Located in the heart of Valencia's historic center, the Silk Museum is housed in a 15th-century Gothic building that was once the College of High Silk Art and was restored for its reopening in 2016.
The building consists of three main halls. The first, the Hall of Fame, was the room where the institution's top leaders met. The ceiling fresco is noteworthy, as is the spectacular 18th-century Valencian ceramic floor. Second, the chapel is decorated with white and green tile flooring that creates a striking optical effect. And finally, the guild archive, the most important in Europe, with countless documents that preserve its history.
The museum reveals the importance of the silk trade in Valencia for more than three centuries, which continues to this day through the traditional Valencian costumes made from this fabric, which are a true expression of color and popular craftsmanship.
During the tour, we'll all learn about the production process: how silkworms were raised, the wooden looms, work tools, fabric samples, and clothing.
Don't miss the opportunity to purchase a garment or object made with beautiful silk prints—a truly unique and original gift!
