When visiting Venice, you are more than likely to have to squeeze yourself between the herd of tourists overrunning the piazzas and streets of the island. Also, a very intimate moment, such as having an aperitif or a cocktail, might be altered by the constant stream of people who come and go from the tables, where the waiters look more like bouncers or traffic directors, and the bar experience becomes nothing more than the simple need to be seated for a while.
To find a more intimate spot, unique experiences, and even more authentic flavours, one has two options: go for the unknown hidden gems or a more renowned, more expensive experience. Here, I’ll cover the latter of these two choices.
The Metropole is a 5-star hotel located a few minutes from Piazza San Marco, alongside Riva degli Schiavoni, one of the best promenades of the island. Inside this hotel, on the ground floor, half indoor with refined-velvet armchairs and sofas, half outdoor with an exotic vegetation garden, you can find Metropole’s Oriental Bar.
Here, a great deal of attention is paid both to service and to the quality of the products being served. The bar offers innumerable choices, including alcohol-free ones, all prepared with extreme care and experience. One of its must-try is the Oriental Spritz, which is a revisitation of Venice’s most iconic spritz.
Beware! Prices can be quite higher than the normal bars’. A couple of cocktails can easily reach 40€. The experience remains priceless.
