I discovered Schronisko Książek (Book Sanctuary) while passing by the famous Library in ul. Koszykowa a few weeks ago. The Library itself is a beautiful, restored building with a great book collection and a great place for creative work with the books - friendly, open, and bright spaces in the city center.
In Warsaw, between 2010-2012 alone, as many as 10.000 books were found ownerless. The idea behind the Sanctuary is that everyone can bring a book or take a book. Thus an exchange of books takes place. After reading a book, you can bring it back to the Sanctuary or leave it for yourself. As far as I am concerned, I love the idea that no book should be thrown away E-V-E-R.
Check this spot on your way through the city or pop in for a cozy read and/or work day. Plus: there are quite a few restaurants and great cafes in the direct surroundings (Mokotowska, Plac Konstytucji, Marszałkowska), so you can actually spend a whole day around the place. Books are also available in English and Ukrainian.
