Even though the name is the "Hill Center", it is technically located in the Eastern Market neighborhood just east of Capitol Hill. It's an events facility that hosts all kinds of activities. Art shows, concerts, and yoga classes are just a few examples of the events they have.
I have been to Hill Center for several art exhibits. Some of those exhibits were fundraisers for charities and non-profits. Some were wine tastings with the option to buy any of the art that was on sale. I also attended an American Sign Language (ASL) class there, as DC is home to one of the oldest and most prestigious universities for people who are deaf and hard-of-hearing. I found that taking this class (and others like it) has been helpful in learning about and communicating with DC's large deaf community.
Another activity at the Hill Center that happens usually once a month, is a cooking class. These classes are very popular. So much so that I have yet to get a ticket. So if this is something that you think you might be interested in, you'd be wise to purchase your ticket well in advance.
It's a real "under-the-radar" location that's really easy to miss (even for locals), so you should make time to go if you can.
