JR from Washington DC

I’m a native Washingtonian and have been in DC most of my life. I’m almost always on the go ―whether it’s at work as an emergency medical technician (EMT) or somewhere in the city even after I leave the hospital. In my free time, you’ll likely find me in one of three places: playing music, dancing, or playing sports. I like traveling, learning about good places to eat, and finding new music. ...

Miracle Theatre Washington DC

Oldest theater in the city

""Miracle Theatre" in Washington DC is the oldest (second-run) movie theater in the city. They also host private events - I once performed theater there..."

The Miracle Theatre is the oldest movie theater in the city. It's more than 100 years old. This historic, single-screen theater has that old-school look and feel that you can only find in the movies.

The Miracle Theatre is a second-run theater that shows movies on most weekends. They also host concerts, storytelling shows, and private events. I've performed theater twice when they hosted the Moth Storytelling events. I would go to the Moth at the Miracle Theatre even if I wasn't performing.

They show a mix of films that have just recently left mainstream theaters as well as older classics. They also host concerts and storytelling events on a semi-regular basis. Ticket prices vary depending on the event. Movies are $6.00 while concerts and other events can cost anywhere between $5.00 - $50.00.

If I'm trying to make more of an evening of it and want to have multiple things to do in and around the same location, I can also take advantage of the theater's Dinner & Movie deal. They have a partnership with three eateries on the same block that will give you a discount on concessions at the theater or 10% off of your food or drink bill at the restaurants.
