Just a few steps from Wiedikon station, in the Kalkbreite cooperative complex and opposite the Lochergut high-rises visible from afar, there is a wonderful store where you can buy sustainable and healthy food.
The Bachser Märt (Swiss German for Market) was founded in 2008 as a village store in the Bachsertal valley, 20 km north of Zurich. Today, it operates 5 individual stores in Zurich and the surrounding area, of which the store in Kalkbreite is the largest.
Bachser Märt is all about sustainability. The range is organic, and most of the products come from the region. The network comprises around 100 farms and manufacturers from Zurich and the surrounding area. Start-ups are also given the opportunity to sell their products here, and 30 apprentices are trained in the stores. So it's a good thing all around!
I like shopping here and think the range of organic, regional products is excellent. The store is bright and modern, with high concrete ceilings. Fruit and vegetables are of high quality, and just looking at the long tables and the high shelves filled to the top with organic produce is a pleasure. There are also rare mushrooms and old-fashioned, almost forgotten vegetables, such as salsify, to discover. The fine selection of cheese and bread at the counter is worth standing in the queue for sometimes, and you will get competent, friendly advice.

"Weisses Kreuz" in Zurich isn't fancy - it's probably what some people would call an 'old man's pub', but what other pub has a 'Stammtisch' for regulars?

The outside area is also worth a visit. You'll find a beautiful collection of palms and agave in a sandy environment crossed by a water basin with fishes.
