A historic building not far from the Kunsthaus hosts an independent small theater with 50 years of history. The house dates back to the 18th century and is a listed building, which originally belonged to Conrad Escher-Pestalozzi.
The theater is located in the basement in a former wine cellar. It was founded in the early 1970s by Zbigniew Stok. Visitors enter the vaulted cellar via a narrow staircase and immerse themselves in an underground world that is also dark during the day. The small bar on the left serves hot and cold drinks. The small playing area on the right is well illuminated and can be seen from three sides. The rows of chairs with 60-80 seats are close to the stage, which results in very close contact with the artists. As the theater does not have its own ensemble, it is open to guest performances. This brings a very interesting mix of different performances, music, cabaret and readings. Check the schedule here: Demnächst - Theater Stok.
The theater receives only limited public funding and is also largely dependent on donations and income from guest performances. We attended a singing concert by our daughter's music class. A flamenco session had taken place beforehand, and a tour through the highlights of the opera followed. You can check the schedule here.
