Zürich is a town surrounded by two hills, left and right from the lake. One is Uetliberg and known for its view over Zürich. It is quite touristy and can become crowded in good weather. On the other side of the town, Zurichberg can offer you a similar magical view of the city and the lake while being much well known by locals and less by tourists.
The terminus station of tram 6 (20min from the main station by public transport) is a good starting point for a panoramic walk. From there, you can take the Orelistrasse. A stop at the small Sorell Hotel Park will enable you to learn about some past Swiss everyday life scenes, represented by bronze statues supported by interesting explanatory texts (in English as well!).
About five minutes later, you will find the panoramic view and some benches to enjoy it. The spot might be less touristy than Uetliberg but is still popular among locals. Picnics, first-love couples, and runners can be expected, especially on Sundays! I recommend it particularly in the spring and autumn when the sunset is right in front. Finally, walking a bit further down, you can reach Rigiblick where the funicular will bring you back to town.
