This small part of Prague called Nový Svět is located right behind Prague Castle. Still very little known by tourists and still very characteristic with its picturesque little houses (quite different from each other), small cafes and art shops. This part of the city truly maintained its characteristic vibe. Nový Svět was founded around 1320 and was twice destroyed by two great fires. Mostly, this part of Prague's castle was inhabited by servants and workers from the castle. Currently, many artists are situated in Nový Svět as it is maybe the calmest part of Prague 1.
While wondering in Nový Svět, don't miss the coffee place called Kavárna Nový Svět, with its delicious coffee and sweets with very cozy atmosphere and a very nice view from their terrace. Right a few meters from this coffee shop, there is a little playground, a must. If you visit Prague Castle with kids, it is an especially calm corner on busy castle grounds. Right next to the playground, you will find a lovely summer theatre.
The very interesting part of Prague Castle close to Nový Svět is called Jelení Příkop (Deer Moat), a natural ravine where a special path under the castle is situated. Czech architect Josef Pleskot constructed a tunnel, an architectonic piece worth visiting while going down from Nový Svět through Deer Moat until Malostranská station, where you can continue to the city centre.
