Porta Portese is the biggest market in Rome and the first time you'll go there you'll get lost... for sure! It's an institution in the city and if you live in Rome or if you are just visiting you must go there to experience this side of the Roman life.
You can find almost everything in it: dresses, new and old, furnishings, bikes, old cameras, posters, books, stamps. It is so big that it can be divided into different areas. My favourite is the one with the vintage clothes and stuff. You have to search under mountains of old clothes and objects to find something nice but then you will have something unique.
If you love markets as I do, you can't miss it. Porta Portese is one of my favourite but there are a lot others in city. If you want an overview or if you want to find the closest to you, you can check on Markets of Rome.
Porta Portese is open only on Sunday morning and you'd better go there early. It's never too early to get there! You will find less people and more stuff to buy...of course they are not going to completely run out but you will have even more choices.
Only one advice: if you see something that you like, don't think, buy it! You won't ever find it again!
