Green spaces are very important to me, as might be expected for an ecologist. Wherever I go, I tend to spend at least an afternoon in a park, sitting on a blanket, or if I don't have one, then on my jacket.
Therefore, spending time in the green areas of the city where I live is also an important activity for me. Sadly, I would say Belgrade is losing its green spaces, but there are a few more green oases that are there for a quick escape from the city bustle. The biggest green area is Košutnjak, a woods 20 minutes from the city center by bus, which spreads over more than 300 hectares of land and offers many paths and spots to explore.
When I explore this place, whether walking or biking, I usually end up at Hajdučka česma, which I now can call my favorite spot in Košutnjak. This is a two-century-old drinking fountain located among the trees and is one of the best areas for a picnic or barbecue with friends, which is more likely for people from Serbia to choose.
This fountain, with its interesting white stone appearance, fits so nicely with its green surroundings. Plus, during the summer, the freshwater and shade of the trees make the space around the fountain great for a break during your walk around this area.
