In the center of the city lies the Belgrade Botanical Garden. As I studied biology, I am emotionally attached to this place, as we spent a good part of our student days here. It's a place where you can sit on a bench, enjoy the beautiful surroundings, take a walk through the garden, and learn about plants.
Walking through the botanical garden, you can explore different areas, such as its famous greenhouse, that opened in 1892. Here, you can see sections with plants from desert regions on one side and plants from tropical regions on the other. Not far from the greenhouse is a Japanese garden, which includes elements typical of traditional Japanese gardens, such as a small lake, a bridge over it, and a tea house.
You can also learn about the history of botanical and biological sciences in Serbia, discover more about our most famous botanist, Josif Pančić, and see the native coniferous tree he discovered and described.
In addition to learning, there's a café where you can relax, have a drink, and chat. During the summer months, the botanical garden hosts many events worth keeping an eye on through their social media, especially musical events, as it's a great space to enjoy a good concert.
