I've often found that the best cafes and restaurants are hidden behind seemingly unremarkable exteriors. This cute but plain white house, tucked behind one of the embassies lining Kneza Miloša street, hides one of my favourite spots in the city: Lava Nova.
Lava Nova is a cafe, restaurant, event space, living room... I don't think even the owners have quite limited it to a single use. This place is one of my favorite hidden gems in Belgrade. Tastefully decorated, hosting a beautiful and spacious garden perfect for drinking an iced coffee in the summer, it's no wonder this was the favorite hangout spot for me and my friends during our studies in the nearby med school.
The owners, a lovely couple who are both friendly and clearly proud of the space they have created, often host events and parties in this space but are usually just as happy to find you a quiet table in the lovely garden, where the resident doggo named Dona will surely come up to you to say hi and play fetch.
