Self-service canteens usually smack of cheap, low-quality food. But that is definitely not the case with El Turco. The restaurant serves a wide range of freshly-prepared food for which you pay by weight.
Â
As you make your way along the restaurant’s serving boards you can choose from dozens of cold, daily dishes that taste as good as they look. Geopolitics play little role at El Turco, which offers the best of Turkish cuisine with a hint of Greek, including appetising burek, stuffed vine leaves and chunks of mouth-watering feta cheese. I find their salads particularly original and refreshing, often containing fruits and vegetables (like pomegranate) that I would have never thought would taste so good in a salad. The menu is completed with a selection of warm dishes, which often includes grilled haloumi, bifteki and chicken or lamb.
Â
El Turco has plenty of seating space inside and a terrace on Place de Londre. And for those with an outsized appetite, the restaurant also offers an open buffet option.
